Lookback

I cannot believe that this year is almost over. 2013 was my first full year as an active Etsy seller, something I had wanted to jump into for quite some time. And I accomplished quite a bit! My goals were firm but doable: grow owlswakeup, do a craft show or two, keep blogging. I have more than achieved that. I had strangers order my clutches and patterns (and if you're an Etsy seller, you know the first Stranger Sale is something to be celebrated!), I learned new sewing techniques, I connected with others with my DIY posts, and I did 8 days of craft shows. I wasn't as consistent as I would like with the blog but that will hopefully find its rhythm in the new year.

The main thing I have learned?

Always be better.

These few words have stuck with me throughout the year. It's okay to make mistakes, to take breaks and reevaluate, to try something new, something risky. Because no matter the experience, you learn from it and you'll always be better next time. These few words don't get me down, they excite me. Life without challenge is boring. Projects without enthusiasm are doomed. We can't constantly compare ourselves to others and feel down. I am proud of my ability to see the success of others not as a failure in myself, but as an opportunity to grow.

To quote my beloved Fever Ray, "Now's the only time I know."

Here's to 2014!

Inspiration: Hand-Printed Fabrics

I'm game for pretty much any DIY, but lately hand-printed fabrics have been catching my eye. Can't find the pattern you want? Make it yourself. There's a screen-printing course at The Make Den that I've been hmm-ing and haw-ing over for a while. However, I don't have the space in my home to really get into this right now. Yet another thing to add to my future dream craft room :). So I guess I'll just have to admire from afar:

OWU Spotlight: Envelope Clutch

Is it the weekend yet? Almost? Thank goodness! I have been so excited for this coming long weekend. It means tons of free time for friends, sewing and, of course, more DIYs ;) I have a few on my mind so keep your eyes peeled over the next few days!

For now, I wanted to feature my envelope clutches. I had a mild crisis with this one, but it all came together in the end. What I really like about this style is that it can easily be dressed up or down, and the shape really shows off the beautiful tapestry patterns. :)

Have an amazing chocolate-filled weekend!

Feathers of Gold // Bloglovin'

Hello, all!

My dear friend Jessica recently opened her Etsy store, feathers of gold, and I absolutely insist that you pay her a visit. Her handmade jewellery has a strong art deco vibe and the pieces are simply gorgeous. As a violent admirer of her style, I had to be the first to snatch up one of her creations!

Mad love.

Check out the rest here. And her beautiful blog. Go on…

Speaking of blogs, are you on Bloglovin'? I signed up (as I'm sure you've all heard about Google Reader by now) and I love the interface! It's so clean and beautiful:

OWU Spotlight: Large Clutch

Hellooo! It is absolutely gorgeous in Toronto this weekend, I am finding any excuse to get outside!! After seeing a dude in shorts last night I think it's safe to say we're done with winter, no? :)

Today's owlswakeup spotlight is the Large Clutch. This design was one of the very first in my shop and after doing the model shoot I was reminded of how much I love it! It's a great size with fun fabric combinations and versatility. My next update will hopefully have some new versions of this style.

OWU Spotlight: Box Clutch

Lots to things to announce! First things first, there is a small shop update coming this weekend! Just a few items but it's been a while so I am very excited!

Another source of excitement is that my Etsy store is getting a makeover! Several of my listings are slooowly be updated with model photos of yours truly. I have wanted to do this for some time and so with the help of a dear friend over the weekend, I have tons of photos creeping into my store.

While showing off these new pics, I am going to be doing a series of blog posts featuring each of my designs. Starting today!

One of my favourite designs is the simplest one: the box clutch. (No, it's not a box. I like the name and it stays :D!) The perfect size for your makeup, your e-reader, or just use it for items that you want to keep separate in your purse. I make a box clutch out of my favourite fabrics. Check them out with their two-toned counterparts here!
